Vagina Voices - SlutWalk
Hey Readers,
Happy Monday!
Sorry for the weeklong sabbatical from the blog. Technical
difficulties! But we are back and ready for more posts and more challenges!
Today’s Vagina Voice comes from the SlutWalk in Toronto. Yes
we know the walk already happened (May 26, I believe), but we’ve been dealing
with some serious material in our rehearsals lately and the SlutWalk and other
anti-rape campaigns have provided some reassurance and inspiration.
SlutWalk Toronto began in 2011 to fight back against victim-blaming and slut-shaming
around sexual violence. The idea was sparked when a Toronto Police officer referred
to women and survivors of sexual assault as "sluts" and suggested women
'dressing like sluts' were asking for it! To learn more about SlutWalk Toronto
go here.
Below are
some commercials we thought were also fitting for this topic. Please respond
with your thoughts and other campaigns, articles, and other resources you have
come across!
Happy Monday!

Vagina Voices - Plenty of Syph
Hey Readers!
As you probably know from all of those "Syph it's back!" promotional posters, buttons, pamphlets, etc. syphilis is on the rise in North America. The website Plenty of Syph fronts as a dating website for local singles that are looking for matches also infected with the disease. It's a play on the real dating site Plenty of Fish (to state the obvious). You go onto the website, enter your information and preferences, take a syphilis profile quiz, and then start reviewing your matches (for free!) Once you have chosen your perfect syph match you can click onwards to learn more about the infection including symptoms, how you catch it, and how to treat it. We were stoked to find this site because it helps to educate the public about syphilis (especially people our age) using relatable tactics. It's funny, clever, and very factual and informative.
Here is a video of us reading a few of the profiles from the website - this is what we do in lieu of rehearsing sometimes!
Happy Monday!
P.S. We like LOVE baby tigers.

Hey Readers!
It's Wilheim Wednesday! Some of you may be wondering where the idea for this fringe show came from. Strangely enough it came from a random sex radio show we used to do in the back of our friends car. We would imitate offensive and kinky dudes (with terrible german accents) talking about everything and anything to do with sex. We thought we'd share that with you... every Wednesday. These are topics we've been wondering about and would love to hear your feedback.
Have a sexy German Wednesday!
*We know it is Thursday, but we had trouble fguring out how to post our sound file. Now it is a movie file!

Pull and Pray?
Hey Readers!
We came across this article and we aren't sure what to think about it. The three of us have been brought up to believe that pulling out during sex was the absolute worst form of birth control and that if you trusted it to keep you safe you were an idiot, but recent research has shown that it might not be as bad as we were taught. This article mentions that it may be almost as effective as using a condom when used effectively. What are your thoughts? Have you found any other research or articles that might help us out?

Erotic E-Readers?
Hey readers!
Along with the invention of e-readers came more liberated, comfortable and "naughty" women. Erotica is on the rise (and this is before 50 Shades of Grey became a New York Times bestseller). Studies are showing that women are purchasing and reading more erotica now that they are available electronically. E-readers offer more privacy. Women no longer have to face a judgemental teller at their local bookstore, but can simply click download. Plus, there is the added bonus of taking it wherever you wish because you can't see the lusty and provocative cover like you can on a traditional paperback. Next time you see someone reading their Kobo, Kindle or Ipad... they could be reading something.... sexy!

Here's a little sneak peek at our show! This scene is called "My mother caught me masturbating." Can anyone relate?
... My mom walks in and says “I’m going to – what were you doing with your pants off?”
“Changing,” (I stammer)
My mom looks confused. Then understanding. Then really, really
uncomfortable.
“Lock your door next time,” she says.
The next time she comes to my room, she knocks first. But
not on the door. She knocks on the wall of the hallways outside my room. All.
The Way. Down.
Stay tuned for more sneak peeks as the Edmonton International Fringe Festival gets closer and closer!

Plan B
Plan B is now being put into a vending machine in the USA on a college campus.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/46297601/ns/health-sexual_health/t/college-vending-machine-dispenses-morning-after-pill/#.T0UQzJh9nww
The vending machine is cheap and accessible only to students and staff of Shippensburg University, Pennsylvania, and is cheaper than on pharmacies. This makes the morning after pill readily available to all students!!!
Plan B is a pill taken after having unprotected sex (whether a condom broke, was never used, or the regular birth control pill was forgotten) and stops the egg from planting itself in the wall of the uterus. It can be taken up to 72 hours after, but is most effective when taken immediately.
What do you think about making Plan B so available?

A Visit From Aunt Flo(w).
Periods happen to every female (we hope) throughout life after puberty until menopause (hooray...not). Sometimes, we get really hormonal: cramps, crying, yelling at people for no reason, etc. Sometimes it's just a plain pain in the poon having to change tampons all the time (and remembering to do so!). Sometimes it's barely noticable. Whether the painters are in, the red sea is overflowing, or it's simply that special lady time, it's different for all of us!!
How do you feel about your period? (Guys, feel free to answer on behalf of any women you know)

Shaping Our Show
We are in the process of generating material for our show, and we are currently basing it off of our own experiences. We would love for you to share some of your experiences with us!! This way, our show will not only reflect us and our perspective of the world of sex and it's education, but yours as well.
Our questions to you now are:
1. What was a question in sex ed in school that you always wanted to ask, but were afraid? Or asked and were made fun of? Or asked and didn't get a proper answer to?
2. Who taught you sexual education? Was it your teachers? Your parents? Your peers? Your internet?
3. How open/honest was your sexual education from your teachers/parents/peers?
4. Was sexual education awkward for you?
5. Anything else you want to share about your early experiences with sexual education?
